Commissioner Attends Prince’s Trust Graduation Ceremony

Dr Alan Billings, South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner was in attendance for the Prince’s Trust Presentation Ceremony at Niagara Conference & Leisure Centre on Thursday, 29 July.

He said: “I recently attended the graduation ceremony of a course delivered jointly by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and South Yorkshire Police to young people aged 16-25.

“The course takes young people who have lost confidence in being able to find work or access higher education. It helps them to regain confidence and self-belief.

“Those involved take part in everything from team building exercises, to exciting days out and community based projects and initiatives.

“The final session was held at Niagara Conference Centre in the presence of family and friends, and celebrated the achievements of six young people who had successfully completed a 12-week personal development programme.

“The graduation event celebrated each young person’s achievements and recognised the journey they had made alongside team leaders John Daley (SYF&R) and Karl Duckels (SYP). With John and Karl’s support the young people, working as a team, gained new skills, made new friends, developed confidence and received help and advice on job-hunting, CV writing and honing their interview skills.

“The event also recognised the help and support of local groups, businesses and organisations who offered work experience to the participants.

“Ben, Cameron, Byron, Chris, Sean and Liam spoke eloquently and passionately about their 12 week journey and their future aspirations.”
