Dr Alan Billings, South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner, said: “The attack on those leaving the concert in Manchester was sickening and cynical and an assault on both the individuals who were there and our way of life.

“I have been with senior police officers this morning to be assured that everything that can be done by them in South Yorkshire to provide reassurance and increase security is being done.

“At these times we must renew our determination to stand together because that is the way in which, in the long run, terrorists will be overcome.

“We pray for those who have died, those injured and their families and friends.”
