NEW ZEALAND TERRORIST ATTACK

“The terrorist attack on mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, was an act of gross cowardice and an assault on all religions. My thoughts are with the families of the victims and other affected.

“It shows clearly why we have to learn to live with differences, especially in a world that is becoming ever more plural.

“In South Yorkshire, whatever community we come from, we will all stand together to stop our communities being places of fear or division.

“I want to reassure members of the Muslim community that South Yorkshire Police will do everything necessary to ensure their safety. No specific threat to UK communities has been identified but in an effort of reassurance our communities may notice an increased police presence over the next few days.”

“Hate crimes need to be dealt with, not least because where hatred breeds, acts of terrorism can be contemplated. Anyone experiencing hate crime is encouraged to report it as soon as possible to South Yorkshire Police.”
