The South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) and Dr Alan Billings, the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) have attended the Ferham Festival.

The Festival, at Ferham Park, was held to celebrate South Asian Heritage Month.

A number of organisations had stalls and activities at the event, including the University of Sheffield, the Rotherham United Community Sports Trust, South Yorkshire Police, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and the VRU.

During the event, the PCC and the VRU spoke to a number of attendees about their work, and residents’ views and concerns on their local area.

Graham Jones, Head of the South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit said: “I’m pleased that the VRU was able to attend the Ferham Festival, held for the first time in three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This was a fantastic opportunity to speak to South Yorkshire residents about the work the Unit does to prevent and reduce violence across the county, and it’s great that so many people were able to attend.”

Dr Alan Billings, South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner said: “As Police and Crime Commissioner, I always enjoy getting out and about across South Yorkshire to speak to local residents.

“I was particularly pleased to see officers from the neighbourhood police team making good contacts with everyone.

“The Ferham Festival was a great way to bring people together, with a number of different stalls and activities to celebrate South Asian History Month, and I’d like to thank the organisers for arranging such a good community event.”
