STATEMENT ON INDEPENDENT OFFICE FOR POLICE CONDUCT (IOPC)
“Whilst I welcome the update from the Independent Office for Police Conduct’s (IOPC) and appreciate that these investigations are very complex, extremely time consuming and that getting to the truth is imperative, I am concerned that after a further 12 months we have still not moved on.
“On the one hand, victims need to know that if there has been any failure by officers in the past that has been dealt with. Equally, any officers that have been the subject of investigation need to have the issue resolved. It is intolerable that they and their families should have these issues hanging over them for such a long time. It offends against natural justice.
“I again urge the IOPC to speed up their investigations and start to deal with this as a matter of urgency.”
