POLICE AND CRIME COMMISSIONER VISITS YORKSHIRE LOWLAND RESCUE

South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Dr Alan Billings, recently paid a visit to the Yorkshire Lowland Search and Rescue Team at their Wath-upon-Dearne base.

Dr Billings received a presentation about their role and how they work with police search advisors across the Yorkshire and the Humber region to aid in the search and recovery of vulnerable missing persons.

He was also given a demonstration of the software they use when they are deployed and talked through how they plan and conduct searches, using their control vehicle as a base.

Dr Alan Billings, said: “Lowland Search and Rescue is a purely voluntary funded organisation that provides vital support to police services across the Yorkshire and the Humber region, in the location of missing, and often vulnerable, members of the public.

“Upon meeting them I was impressed by their dedication, commitment and professionalism. They are called into a search by police search advisors to provide support in searching for missing people and often respond at very short notice from all areas of the region. The volunteers respond rapidly and professionally to emergency situations and add great value to the county’s search and rescue capability.”

Yorkshire Lowlands Rescue is a voluntary organisation funded by charitable donations and staffed by volunteers who provide a 24/7 service to assist the police and other partner agencies.
