It is now a year since I became Police and Crime Commissioner. I was elected in fairly miserable circumstances. Public pressure had forced my predecessor to resign in the wake of the child sexual exploitation scandals.
Maintaining community policing
For the past five years, all over the country, the number of police officers has been reducing. In South Yorkshire we have seen a fall of over five hundred. Yet, on the whole, crime has kept going down.
