WHO ARE WE?

The South Yorkshire Criminal Justice Board (SYCJB) was set up in April 2003 to oversee the Criminal Justice System in South Yorkshire, one of 42 local Criminal Justice Boards or Partnerships across England & Wales and is a voluntary partnership.

The SYCJB is not governed by statute and is not an executive body.  The Board usually meets every quarter, and although SYCJB meetings are not open to the public, observers may be invited at the discretion of the Chair.

The Board comprises public, private, and voluntary organisations. Board Members will represent their own organisation at strategic level and are responsible for championing SYCJB business throughout their own organisations.

The agencies that make up the Board are:

• The Office of the Police & Crime Commissioner for South Yorkshire
• South Yorkshire Police
• Citizens Advice Witness Service
• The Crown Prosecution Service
• The Legal Aid Agency
• Her Majesty’s Courts & Tribunals Service
• The National Probation Service
• NHS (England) – Health and Justice
• The South Yorkshire Community Rehabilitation Company
• South Yorkshire-based Prisons
• Victim Support
• Youth Offending Teams based within South Yorkshire (Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham & Sheffield),

 

In progressing its work, the Board works with other agencies, organisations and partnerships, too numerous to name them all, but including:

• Barnsley Community Safety Partnership
• Safer Stronger Doncaster Partnership
• Safer Rotherham Partnership
• Sheffield Safer & Sustainable Communities Partnership
